Former Arsenal player Andrei Arshavin believes that the main reason of why Arsenal failed to win the Premier League on this current season was due to Arsene Wenger and his conservative approach towards the 2nd half of the season which saw them dropping a big amount of crucial points.
Arshavin used to perform with Arsenal starting from February of 2009 up until June of 2013 which is when his contract with the Premier League club expired.
During that period of time, Arshavin could never manage to win the league title or any significantly important piece of silverware with Arsenal and moving on to 2016, things have not really changed as Arsenal still has not lifted the Premier League silverware and according to Arshavin, this time it’s Arsene Wenger’s fault.
“It’s a conservative club. Over the last few years Arsenal have bought two world-class players in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, while the goalkeeper Petr Cech has also joined. Apart from that, there have not been any major changes. Arsenal has had the same head coach for a long time and he has his ideas. The whole team depends on the viewpoint of Arsene Wenger and his views towards football. I don’t know if this conservatism is a hindrance.’’
“This season Arsenal had every chance to become champions given the squad they have. All their main rivals, Chelsea, Manchester United and even Manchester City have not been looking bright. Everyone was saying that the Gunners would be battling it out for the title, but as you can see there is no comparison to Leicester this season. It is very likely that they will be crowned champions.” Andrei Arshavin said.
Arsenal kicked off the 2015-16 Premier League season on a positive form but things started to fall apart for Arsene Wenger and his squad after dropping points against: Manchester United, Swansea City, Chelsea, Stoke City, Sunderland and West Ham United.
All signs are pointing towards Leicester City winning the Premier League in this season as they managed to maintain consistent results throughout the entire season while the other title contenders Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal just couldn’t stay at the same pace.
