Arsenal have struggled with their lack of change in tactics and it has affected their form so far.
With the purchase of Swiss play maker Granit Xhaka, there are hopes that Arsene Wenger will change the tactics a bit to ensure the reach greater heights. The Frenchman has come under fire like never before for failing to lift the English Premier League for years.
Unlike say Leicester City or Atletico Madrid who can sit deep, concede possession of the ball and make counter-attack, Arsenal are inclined to hold the ball more. Real Madrid is another club that tried something Arsenal could consider ahead of the new season.
The Spanish giant played a 4-2-3-1, with Toni Kroos and Luca Modric sitting in midfield and James Rodriguez in the number ten role with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale playing wide. The team was at best average until Zinedine Zidane changed the set-up when he took over. The legend took out James and sent in Casemiro, and then he changed to 4-1-4-1 with Kroos and Modric given more freedom in the middle.
Ronaldo and Bale were now behind the striker instead of playing wide. Their results improved significantly. The Gunners have not changed tactics in recent times as much to suit their games. Many have questioned the effectiveness of players in positions that they were played. Ex-player Andrei Arshavin now in Kazakhstan was never a left winger even Santi Cazorla.
With the current team set up to benefit Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez, there are concerns as to where Wenger will play Granit Xhaka. He could be set in replace Francis Coquelin or Mohammed Elneny but would have more to offer the club. The options in the team are limitless if Wenger would try and change tactics but not play them out of positions.
